Releasing on 24th January 2018, new Bollywood movie ‘Expiry Date’ could not earn huge box office collection in the first week. Facing box office competition with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial, the Hindi film received lesser response from audiences in the cinema halls. As Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer Bollywood movie acquired strong hold in the theatres, ‘Expiry Date’ movie could not attract a big audience in initial week.
The film was released one day before when ‘Padmavati’ hit screens. On first day, the Hindi film witnessed average occupancy in the cinema halls. The Hindi language movie could not catch the attention of a huge audience in the first weekend as most of the people preferred to watch the much awaited Bollywood movie ‘Padmavati’. ‘Expiry Date’ faced 1 to 3% occupancy in the cinema halls.
No sooner did the craze for ‘Padmavati’ come to an end than Akshay Kumar starrer ‘PadMan’ grabbed rigid hold in the cinema halls. The Bollywood film received huge response from the audiences and all other adjacent releases suffered with a drastic drop in public response. ‘Expiry Date’ is one of those Hindi films which faced tough competition in that week. The competitive phase has severely impacted the film’s business in domestic arena.
In first three days, Hindi movie ‘Expiry Date’ did a business of Rs 0.003 crore. The film witnessed gradual drop in the public response when Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor starrer movie ‘PadMan’ released on 9th February and diverted a major chunk of audience. ‘Expiry Date’ film witnessed consistent declination in the public response and ended up earning Rs 0.005 crore by the end of first week.
